Interstate Compact
The Federal Interstate Compact for the Supervision of Parolees and
Probationers is a legally binding agreement between the fifty states,
the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands to serve
as each other's agents in the supervision of qualified parolees and
probationers. The Compact provides a legal method whereby parolees and
probationers my relocate to rehabilitative environments regardless of
state jurisdictions, while preventing interruption of supervision.
Public safety and the controlled movement of offenders are critical issues
across the country. The Department of Public Safety Division of Parole and
Probation Interstate Compact Unit facilitates the transfer of offender
supervision into and out of the state of Nevada, and is responsible for
ensuring that federal Compact rules are followed.
Unit personnel include the manager, 8 Division Specialist II's and 1
Division Specialist III, who supervise well over two thousand Nevada offenders
who are residing in other states, and on Administrative Assistant IV who processes
and tracks all requests from other states fro offender supervision in Nevada.
The Interstate compact Unit functions as the liaison between the Division's district
offices and Interstate Compact personnel nationwide.
