Areas of
responsibility
The
Nevada Department of
Public Safety,
Capitol Police
Division, is
organized in two
geographic areas of
responsibilities.
Capitol Police -
Carson City
Capitol Police - Las
Vegas
Capitol Police -
Carson City
The
Nevada Capitol
Police maintain a 24
hour police presence
in the lobby of the
State Capitol
building and the
Governor's mansion.
Officers are also
assigned to the
Attorney General's
office and the
Supreme Court. The
officers are a
visible deterrent to
crime. Officers
monitor electronic
security equipment
to ensure the safety
of the elected
officials, state
employees, and
visitors as well as
state property and
assets.
Visitors from around
the world enter the
Capitol building
daily, and are
assisted where
necessary as they
enjoy the exhibits
on a self-guided
tour.
Sixty-five state
owned or leased
buildings are
patrolled daily with
about 36,000 miles
logged annually to
provide a safe
environment in and
around the
buildings. The
Capitol Police
respond to a full
range of calls for
police assistance at
specific state
locations.

Capitol Police - Las
Vegas
In
1994, a Las Vegas
branch of the
Capitol Police was
established and
based in the Grant
Sawyer State Office
Building. One
supervisor and eight
officers are
deployed to ensure
the safety of state
employees and
non-employees who
enter the building
or parking lot. This
is accomplished by
electronic security
systems and by close
contact with more
than 500 employees
in 23 state
agencies. Safety and
activities
committees provide a
forum to optimize
employee safety.
In 1999, two
additional officers
were added to
provide security for
the Supreme Court
operations on the
seventeenth floor of
the Regional Justice
Center.
