The Federal Interstate Compact for the
Supervision of Parolees and Probationers is a legally binding agreement between
the fifty states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands
to serve as each other's agents in the supervision of qualified parolees and
probationers. The agreement provides a legal method whereby parolees and
probationers my relocate to rehabilitative environments regardless of state
jurisdictions, while preventing interruption of supervision.
Public safety and the controlled movement of offenders are
critical issues across the country. The Department of Public Safety, Division of
Parole and Probation, Interstate Compact Unit facilitates the transfer of
offender supervision into and out of the state of Nevada, and is responsible for
ensuring that federal compact rules are followed.
Unit personnel include the manager, 8 Division Specialist
II's and 1 Division Specialist III, who monitor well over two thousand Nevada
offenders who are residing in other states, and one Administrative Assistant IV
who processes and tracks all requests from other states for offender supervision
in Nevada. The Interstate Compact Unit functions as the liaison between the
division's district offices and interstate compact personnel nationwide.
