Sex Offender Community Notification
Effective July 1, 1997, the State of Nevada made revisions to its existing
convicted persons registration laws to include specific record of registration
and notification requirements for those convicted of sex offenses and of
certain crimes against children.
As of January 1, 1998, the Division implemented the Sex Offender Community
Notification program. On July 01, 2001, the initial registration duties were
transferred to local law enforcement. Accordingly, all convicted sex offenders
who are present in Nevada for more than 48 hours are required to register with local
law enforcement to establish a fingerprint based record. Nevada is in full compliance
with the Federal mandates and guidelines set forth in Megan's Law and the Jacob
Wetterling Act.
